Join the legion of us who have favourite chile recipes from cookbooks all across the spectrum - most of them calling for kidney beans. Chile con carne means "chile with meat"- not "chile with meat and no vegetables". If we're not in Texas, we don't have to eat that way. ;-) And for something completely different - what in the heck is the easiest way to wash spinach? There must be some way easier than mine! There must be some way easier than mine! Dig it up and throw it in the nearest river, then go to the store and by a tin of the stuff, if you really must eat it. John * # * nz ------------------------------- From: Joanne Cummings No no no! There's no comparison between fresh spinach and (yuck) the canned variety. Frozen will do, but canned? Never! Joanne of the Nile, who always though she hated spinach until discovering fresh in early adulthood ------------------------------- From: "Gaynor McCartney" John replied:- > Dig it up and throw it in the nearest river, then go to the store and by > a tin of the stuff, if you really must eat it. What an awful waste. John I am ashamed of you. Did you never hear of Pop-Eye the Sailor man! Answer to Sherri'e question.... very carefully, unless you want to eat snails. You've gotten your pets and your dates mixed up again, John - if it's munching on the grass, it a sheep... you can tell it from the dog, it's got the lipstick and mascara on... - pax - Andrew ------------------------------- From: Sherri Butler John nz wrote: > Dig it up and throw it in the nearest river, then go to the store and by > a tin of the stuff, if you really must eat it. Well, it could be worse. You could have told me to jump in after it to eat it. ;-) But I'm with Joanne - I wouldn't touch a tin of the stuff, so maybe I better dive in after the fresh anyway! Sherri ------------------------------- From: Mary Sherri- My method requires a LARGE bowl. Put the spinach in the bowl, add cold water to cover. Swish the spinach around a bit and lift it out of the bowl into another bowl. Dump the water, which by now should have a good bit of dirt in it. Rinse the bowl. Put the spinach back in, add water, swish, etc. Sometimes it takes three or four rinsings to do it, but it is more effective than doing each leaf under the spigot. Hope this helps.
