Veggie Driers (Dehydrators) (part of the Tomato Threads) From: "Heather Angus" To: anglican@list.stsams.org Subject: Re: Two Years of Folly -- gardens Date: Mon, 15 Sep 2003 It may be sacrilige(sp?), but when I've got too many tomatoes in the garden, I dry them on this handy-dandy fruit/veggie dryer than a friend gave me. I love the taste of the dried tomatoes in my omlets all winter. But these salads sound wonderful too. I wish I were more of a cook; maybe someday. I have four tomato plants this year, have done nothing whatsoever to them, and have more tomatoes than I can eat, so it's time to fire up the dryer again. Heather -------------------------------------- From: "sally.mullock" OK Heather, please explain to me what a fruit/vedge drier is and how it differs from the oven :) I don't think drying is as sacreligious as allowing friut to rot and go to waste - like most of my apples appear to be doing today! Love SallyM -------------------------------------- From: Sibyl Smirl There are quite a few of them on the market, different in detail, this is just one http://www.valuerecipes.com/index.php/trade/productinfo/ASIN/B00005OA2T (ED: This link was inactive 9/22/05) -- Love in Christ, Sibyl Smirl -------------------------------------- From: "sally.mullock" Thanks Sibyl! Now I see it is a special gadget! I must look and see what sort of price they are over here! Talking of gadgets, there was an item on our news today about all those things we buy and that end up at the back of a kitchen cupboard! Top of the list, apparently, is the sandwich maker, followed by the fondue set. So, what things have you all bought, but never used after the first few tries? Love SallyM -------------------------------------- From: Mimi Bennett-Aronson If you can't find one locally, you can make one by putting some screen shelves in a box with a light bulb. I used to dry sliced onions & my kids ate them like popcorn. Shalom, Mimi Mimi Bennett-Aronson --------------------------------------
