Gadgets (part of the Tomato Threads) From: "sally.mullock" To: anglican@list.stsams.org Subject: Re: Two Years of Folly -- gardens Date: Mon, 15 Sep 2003 So, what things have you all bought, but never used after the first few tries? Love SallyM -------------------------------------- From: "Ellen Rains Harris" I have a rice cooker that was last used when we had Korean students living with us. Six years ago. I didn't get it then, I don't get it now, and it's now in a lovely Condo in Florida, waiting for someone to cook rice. -------------------------------------- From: Mimi Bennett-Aronson I bought a brand new electric Hot Dog cooker at the Senior Center yard sale one year. Couldn't resist the $1 price tag. I donated it back the next year after never having used it. 8-) Shalom, Mimi Mimi Bennett-Aronson -------------------------------------- From: "Carol M. Marsh" I still have a fondue cooker and a sandwich maker hiding in the cupboard. I gave the rice cooker to the thrift shop several years ago. It's time to clean out the gadget shelf again. Carol -- Carol M. Marsh -------------------------------------- From: Sibyl Smirl My dad was a sucker for gadgets. Whatever was being hyped that particular Christmas season which was the latest and greatest kitchen gadget (usually electrical), that was what Mom got for Christmas, because she always said she didn't want anything. While I was married, (thirteen years), he bought two of them, one for me. I learned to cook from my Mom, and neither of us found much use for them: whatever it was was usually easier and simpler to wash the old-fashioned way. They got used a time or two to please Dad. The exceptions were electric can openers, which Mom liked, and the blenders, which I like, and eventually used Mom's for spare parts. When I was divorced and my parents died, I moved back into their house, all my stuff (pretty scanty except for books and craft materials and tools, and of course the baby/toddler stuff--what furniture we owned was mostly pure junk) on top of theirs. The cabinets are still full of doubles of nearly-new gadgets. I need to find a better place for one of the grilled-sandwich-makers--I need to move it about once a year to get to occasional stuff behind it, and it won't just trade places because of shape. I miss my Dad, dreadfully! Love in Christ, Sibyl Smirl --------------------------------------
