Spiced Cider

John the best use for those cinnamon sticks is to drop three or four in a gallon of apple cider (NOT hard cider, but the fresh-pressed kind), along with a few cloves (5-10) and some whole allspice, and maybe just a pinch of nutmeg. Put it on the stove for a half hour or so -- don't let it boil. Your house will smell like heaven, and the cider will be perfectly seasoned.

. . . a SWEET potato (NOT a white one) should be sprinkled, as Jay said, with some GROUND cinnamon, be liberally slathered with butter (a bit of brown sugar wouldn't hurt) -- or butter and honey.

It's a real YUM, both the cider and the sweet potato. Maybe not when summer is approaching, but certainly when fall puts a nip in the air, as it has here.
