spacer Okra as a Thread

Subject: [Anglican] completely off topic

In a burst of irrational exuberance I bought frozen okra at the
market. I've enjoyed soups and stews containing okra and thought
it would make a good vegetable at supper. I put on plenty of
pepper and was careful not to overcook but the result was pretty
tasteless. Any hints for sesoning and bringing out the flavor
in okra?

Put it in gumbo. Fry it.
Stewed or just steamed isn't good, IMO.
It's not strong, but not tasteless.

Indeed! I like it steamed with a little butter, salt and pepper.

But your best bet is to thaw it a bit, slice it and dust it in
cornmeal, and fry it very brown. Spectacular.

I'd try for a refund

Pickle it = yum!

Or cook it with tomatoes.

Fried is also great.

Cut into 3/8"slices,
moisten with lime juice and
lightly bread with panco bread crumbs
and a touch of ancho chili powder,

then flash fried in very hot oil
(peanut if you can use it) until browned,

then use the okra as a garnish on rice or a thick soup
(or gumbo) or maybe a salad.

Anyway, that's how I like it. :-)

Yeah, mix it with tomatoes, onions and bacon
....put some hot sauce in it too

I breaded the okra, sauted it with diced tomato, onion and
celery and served it over rice. It was very good.
Many thanks to all who responded to my query. I knew okra
was good, just didn't know how to do it.
I am going to try all your suggestions. James Kennish
