spacer Minced Meat History

Just read an interesting snippit about mince pies in the Parish magazine, so thought I would share it with you <g>

The first mince pies were oblong-shaped, like the manger. They were filled with minced meat and later fruit and peel were used. The colours are supposed to remind people of gold, frankinsence and myrrh.

Later still, a top was added to represent the roof of the stable and the hole which allows steam to escape was star-shaped. Maybe the round modern version should remind us of a world which has such great need of our Saviour.

So, when we wish one another a Happy Christmas and bring out the mince pies, let us always spare a thought for Jesus whose birthday we are celebrating!

Thought this was quite good as I always like to learn new facts about our various traditions!

SallyM - thinking of when to start on my mince pies when it is such a lovely sunny day!
