Clothes-Dryer Shrimp
from "The Kitchen Sink Cookbook: Offbeat Recipes From Unusual Ingredients"
by Carolyn Wyman (Birch Lane Press/Carol Publishing)
Printer version of this recipe

1 1/2 teaspoons Old Bay or other favotite seasoning, optional
1/2 pound extra large unpeeled shrimp
1 laundry hosiery bag
Lots of aluminum foil

1. Sprinkle the seasoning over the unpeeled shrimp, if desired, and toss to distribute evenly.
2. Wrap the shrimp in aluminum foil. You can put up to four in a package, but put them side by side rather than on top of one another.
3. Seal tightly, then double or even triple wrap.
(Good wrapping is essential to avoid Fishy Dryer Syndrome)
4. Place the foil package in the hosiery bag, close and toss in the dryer alone.
Run the dryer at the high setting for 10 to 12 minutes.
Peel and eat. Serves 2.

Note: Because dryer temperatures vary, you might want to check the package for doneness at 8 minutes. You can also cook shrimp while clothes are being dried, but it will take quite a bit longer.

[Note to non-USA Anglicani: when we say jumbo shrimp, we mean what you call prawns.]
