Dora Smith asked >How much candied lemon and orange rind equals >rind of 8 naval Candied Orange Peels and 4 lemons? < snip > Okay, Dora, see how much I love you? I have a bag of oranges, even navel, luckily, in my kitchen, and . . . Candied Orange Peel Printer version of this recipe I just peeled one, a medium-to-small (orange) with an average-thickness skin, and diced the peel while eating the sections. It came out 1/3 cup. I continue by putting it into a saucepan with some sugar and as little water as possible and simmering it for a while, When I candy peel, I usually use strips rather than dice. The size of that orange would have made a very large lemon, and of course lemons are shaped differently. A sphere would have less surface area than a prolate spheroid, so you can probably figure "one lemon" to be about the same. I had suspected that they might swell in the candying process enough to make a difference, but they didn't. and I'm now enjoying my Comment Coffee, heated in the microwave with a cinnamon stick and a couple of cloves in the cup, and sweetened with the syrup, which will last for several days, maybe longer, depending on how much I intersperse Comment Coffee with regular. I love it, but don't want _any_ flavored coffee for my basic "rations". |
