St. Sam's and St. Bede's Recipe Pages Bon Appetit! --------------------------------------------- St. James Altar Bread 1 cup Milk 1/2 cup Honey or Cane Syrup 2 sticks Butter 3 cups Unbleached Flour 2 cups Whole Wheat Flour Combine milk, honey and butter in heavy saucepan; heat until smooth. Add the liquid to the combined flours, knead lightly, place in plastic bag. Pull off small amounts, press flat with hands in white flour and run through a hand-operated pasta machine: first on widest setting, next on middle setting and last on narrowest setting. Place sheets on ungreased baking pans. Warm in 350º oven for 30 seconds; remove and impress (not cut!) Circles with cutter; Bake until lightly browned, approximately 5 to 7 minutes (until crisp to touch). Remove, cool on counter, punch out. Store in freezer bags in freezer. Vary cutters for desired sizes of wafers. The Altar Guild of St. James Church in Alexandria, LA made these wafers for the 1988 General Convention.
