St. Sam's and St. Bede's Recipe Pages Bon Appetit! --------------------------------------------- Oatmeal Bread 1 cup rolled oats 1 cup boiling water Pour boiling water over oats in a mixing bowl. Stir well and let sit one hour. 1/4 cup luke warm water 1/4 cup maple syrup (presumably honey or molasses could be used.) Soaked oatmeal 1-1/2 tsp butter 1-1/2 tsp salt 3 cups bread flour 2 tsp SAF yeast or 2-1/2 tsp bread machine yeast. If there is any problem with the yeast, seek advice from some experienced person among your acquaintance. I get the SAF yeast (I think it's French) from King Arthur Flour. I think they also have bread machine yeast. If you compare this to other recipes, you will note that this one calls for twice as much oatmeal. An excellent oatmeal bread can be made with half the above amount, but this is that much tastier, and oatmeal is very good for you. Barbara D. Colt, From: Barbara D.
